Discovery Channel Roboreptile
The Discovery Channel Online Store launched a new B2C website (www.myroboreptile.com), promoting an exclusive remote controlled robotic dinosaur called Roboreptile.
Created by Interactive Design firm Myjive Inc., the product website proves to be a big hit for Discovery Channel’s online storefront and their holiday sales. The new website (My Roboreptile) focuses on Discovery’s new and exclusive product, the chroma-color release of Roboreptile by Wowee. The site features home-grown videos, a Robo Name Generator, and a custom Flash Game where users can be Robo and sling dino-eggs across the jungle. This product has never been cooler.
Myjive received a Gold Award for the Roboreptile website from the Web Marketing Association, a competition that acknowledges the best Websites in 96 industry categories. Nominations come from interactive agencies and website marketing departments in more than 33 countries from around the world.
The foundation of the Roboreptile web presence is the Flash Game. Myjive titled the game “Egg Whack” and the narrative was simple: hit the dinosaur egg as far as you can without cracking it open. The Myjive team of engineers developed a custom game engine that simulated gravity, angle, movement, and velocity of an object as it was propelled through the air. The Myjive creative team topped this off with a 3D animated Robo character and detailed environmental textures. The results was a highly detailed experience that quickly became the forefront of the Roboreptile web presence.
We had the great opportunity to work with a new Ad Agency on this project. Buzztone (www.buzztone.com) had a strong team of people with great ideas for how to best promote this product. We took their vision and pushed it to the next level. The production also included a 10 second animated opener, an icon and wallpaper section, and a multi-stack video player, using the Flash media component and XML driven content.
Unique to the web presence is the Roboreptile name generator. The name-gen section allows fans and owners to create a custom name for their Roboreptile. Myjive’s name-gen system assimilates the users unique entries, makes comparisons to related words in a database of Roboreptile’s native language, and based on this comparison formulates a unique name. What is your Robo-name?
The Robot Reptile Eggs were inspired by the internationally acclaimed Contemporary Porcelain artist, John Tilton (www.tiltonpottery.com). His unique Zinc Crystal process creates incredibly breathtaking patterns - something only Nature could rival.
