My Heroes Ability on Facebook
With over 2.9 million active users, My Heroes Ability has generated a cult fan following that easily dominates all other Facebook applications in its genre. For an application that is exposed to millions of people daily, strong brand recognition is critical.
Recently added to Zynga’s impressive arsenal of Facebook games and applications, MHA is just another reason why the advertising world is taking a second look at the impact of social-centric application development. Myjive worked with producer Ken Chiu to design several different identity concepts for the app. Influenced by derivatives of a broken DNA helix, Myjive helped ‘My Heroes Ability’ connect to over 4.4 million subscribers with a new globally recognized Brand.
After experimenting with dozens of directions, the creative team focused on the human chromosome. Keeping within the scope of micro-biology, the chromosome provided a familiar connection with the already established fan base. Furthermore, traditional scientific illustrations of the human chromosome mimicked the shape of the letter “X,” as well as an “H.” The connotations brought by this letter–mutation, genetics, extreme, hero–directly supported what MHA was all about.
Through final rendering of the logo, the chromosome was made to wrap around a globe, signifying the international reach that ‘My Heroes Ability’ had with its users. Deliverables included illustrations, type design, 3D rendering, and a brand messaging package.
